The conservation of Knole in Sevenoaks will be the largest project of its kind to be carried out by the National Trust over the next five years.
Hyperkit was appointed to consult and produce a document to introduce the visual character of Knole. The document was used in the briefing of architects, retail designers, curators and interpretation designers. Following this we devised a new visual identity system for the property.
We were initially asked to work within the National Trust’s existing guidelines for the new identity. However, it soon became apparent that we could not deliver the aspirations of the brief within these guidelines and we worked with the client team on a new strategy. The result is that Knole has become the first property to have its own visual identity which sits outside that of the National Trust. We looked at all aspects of Knole’s visual character to create a solution that will deliver a contemporary spirit of place for the visitor.
